Volunteer Crews

Art Galley

Monitor the art show in the Barnalaria and help attendees with interactive installations.

A/V / Workshop Documentation

Manage and monitor the audio and video recording equipment used to record workshops and other special events on site. Please note any prior experience with A/V equipment in your application.

Childcare

Hang out with Rad Myco attendees aged 12 and under and teach them about fungi through a variety of activities and games. These activities will be primarily planned out by the Childcare crew lead, though volunteers are welcome to contribute to this planning process if they like. Relevant experience taking care of children is required.

Dept. of Public Spores (DWS)

Support the infrastructure of Rad Myco by floating and landing where needed. This role is largely an on-call gig, meaning you will need to step away at a moment's notice if needed to help with this or that. Some shifts there will be little to do, others may be filled with odd jobs (e.g. supporting the behind-the-scenes flow at the special events, serving drinks, or helping move or set up materials for workshops or events).

This role also requires monitoring and maintaining areas related to compost, water, and sanitation, which includes cleaning the hand washing and drinking water stations, and re-stocking and managing the composting and portables toilets on site. This position involves the transport of human waste from the compost toilets to sealed containers.

Health & Safety

The medical team will be on call throughout the event to assist with minor injuries, illnesses, or other ailments not requiring hospitalization. As such, volunteers on this team will not be required to cover their entrance fee balance if they do not log 16 hours in this role. Members of this team need to have proof of current first aid, first responder, EMT, or higher level of training.

Info Booth (The Hyphal Tip)

The Hyphal Tip Crew is a core team as this site is the center of activity throughout the duration of the event. Team members welcome, check-in, and orient attendees, update the daily schedule board, sell Rad Myco merchandise and raffle tickets, and build excitement for the day's events. They are also responsible for answering attendee questions. This is a busy position, with lots of time spent connecting with fellow mycofolk, so it is best suited for those who can multitask well, don't get overwhelmed easily, have strong communication skills, and a lot of patience. Ideally you would have attended a prior Rad Myco so that you are familiar with the event.

Parking

This team is responsible for greeting all Rad Myco attendees at the entrance gate, ensuring that they find their parking space, and park in accordance to our parking map and their tickets.

Stage Management

Volunteers on this team will be stationed at a workshop area for the duration of a given shift, where they will monitor the sound board and help teachers prepare the space, run errands if needed, and clean and reset the workshop space after each workshop.

Early Stages Prep

Members of this team will help with miscellaneous tasks in the weeks before the Rad Myco, enabling them to enjoy the entire event. These tasks will be hands-on, so volunteers will need to be located in the Portland area.

Setup

Help finalize building the infrastructure and decorating the site on Monday, Sept. 23 and/or Tuesday, Sept. 24. If needed, setup volunteers may also be asked to help with space preparations for special events during the Rad Myco.

Breakdown

Help clean up the land hosting the event on Monday, September 30, and, if needed, Tuesday, October 1.
